Bloemfontein - The family of a missing Bloemfontein student fears the worst after receiving a strange SMS from his phone saying: “He died in peace.”

The full message was: “We are finished with the boy and you will never find out where he is. He died in peace. We only wanted money.”

It was sent to a female friend following the disappearance of Thabiso Moholoholo, 21, reported Volksblad.

Moholoholo, who was a second-year B.Sc enviromental geography student, went missing on 9 October on his way to the library.

He has not been seen again since. There had apparently been no ransom demand or any previous message from those who might have taken him.

The student’s father, Jacob Moholoholo, spoke about his worry for his son.

“He worked so hard to make something of himself. I just want him back. My heart is sore. I don’t sleep at night and life is hard.”

Private investigator Leon Rossouw said everything pointed to a crime having been committed.

“According to his roommate and friends he didn’t miss classes, tests or exams. He regularly called his father and didn’t have a history of running away,” said Rossouw.

Police confirmed investigating the student’s disappearance. Anyone with information was asked to call Rossouw on 083 410 0900 or the investigating officer on 082 925 5724.
