Grahamstown - A woman student was killed during a struggle in a Rhodes University hostel room on Monday, police reported.
Captain Nomazwi Nkombisa said students at the hostel heard a quarrel in room 66 of Olive Schreiner House at 00.15 on Monday.
They called a warden who found two students, a man and a woman, in a pool of blood.
The police and an ambulance were called, but the woman was found to have died in the room. Police found a knife and a bloodied pair of scissors with the pair.
The woman had multiple stab wounds.
The man, aged 27, was still alive and taken to Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth, said Nkombisa.
He had stab wounds to the neck and chest and was under police guard.
The woman's name was being withheld as her relatives had not been notified.
Nkombisa said the woman was originally from Zimbabwe, but was known to have relatives in Springs.
Apparently, said Nkombisa, the pair had broken off a relationship a week ago.
