Bloemfontein - Two students from the Central University of Technology appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday for the murder of a fellow student.

The student was brutally assaulted with golf clubs and stabbed to death in his flat at a block of flats in Parfitt Street on Saturday night, July 18,” said Captain Chaka Marope of the Parkweg Police station.

The suspects, Okene Douglas, 21 and Tebello Tsubella, 22, are both Nigerian citizens who study in Bloemfontein. One of them was a close friend of the murdered student, Marope said.

The killers disposed of his body by burning it and later dumped it near the railway line in Uitsig suburb. The charred body of the 25-year-old second year engineering student was discovered last Monday by passing motorists who then alerted the police.

“The murdered student was also robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash, a Plasma TV, iPhone and clothes. Two fellow students also stole the vehicle of the deceased and used it for the weekend as a joyride. The vehicle was later found abandoned next to the road in Gunns Street in Universitas," said Marope.

The two suspects were arrested on Friday at their block of flats in Willows.

The case against the two students was postponed to August 3, when they are expected to apply for bail. Until then, they will remain in custody.
