Suicide note blames unfaithful girlfriend

2012-02-13 14:39

Mbombela - A Zimbabwean man is believed to have committed suicide on Sunday because his girlfriend was allegedly unfaithful.

Wellington Bota, 21, was found dead after drinking poison in his room at Toitskraal farm near Marble Hall.

"When police arrived on the scene they found a cup with a mixture of water and poison next to his body. There was also a container of poison called Crop Protection," said Marble Hall police spokesperson Constable Lethunya Mmuroa on Monday.

He said police also found a suicide note in which Bota's girlfriend was accused of having affairs with other men.

Mmuroa said police opened an inquest docket to investigate the matter.

  • Chaapo - 2012-02-13 15:02

You never judge the stressors that afflict a peson till you walk in their shoes. Any loss of life should be mourned because it indicates again that we are lacking in intervention methods that present alternatives. However, just observing a big difference - a Zimbabwean will most likely kill himself whereas a South African will kill the girlfriend and possibly others as well. I wonder why.

Poor thing - someone should have told him early in life that this thing called life is full of dissapointments. All you need do is get up and start all over again. It's what makes life worth living. And that at the age of 21 you think you have found the love of your life, until you meet someone else - and it just keeps getting better with time.

      Christina - 2012-02-13 15:45

totaly agree with you at 21 its only the begining of life, you'll have strings of heart breaks. i guess youth this days cant take a heart break, not sure whether to call it weak or corward.

By posting this article you've opened up the door for another suicide. The girlfriend is already going to blame herself, there is no need to make it public as to why he did it. If she committs suicide the blame is on News24. I agree that what she did was wrong but shame on News24 for stooping so low.

      Ashley - 2012-02-13 15:51

i don't think she'll commit suicide, she has other men.

      Antionette Oberholzer - 2012-02-13 15:53

We've had 5 suicides in our family and believe me, suicide follows suicide

I ask myself the same question. News 24 has clearly run out of stories to tell

  • Tammy - 2012-02-13 16:00

To the girlfriend: it was his choice to kill himself - please do not blame yourself.

  • cosmos.ndebele - 2012-02-13 16:11

  • Jacqueline - 2012-02-13 16:21

This often happens. You will find that a certain type of personality is prone to suicide. He must have been a loner and rejected by society, probably experienced rejection from a very early age. This type of person doesn’t fall in love easily but when they do it’s for keeps. Can you imagine his pain caused by this unfaithful partner? His whole world must have collapsed, crumbled, stopped in one single breath. Walk a day in a person’s shoes before condemning their action.
