Johannesburg - A North West man has been arrested for robbery, attempted murder and attempted hijacking in Springbokpan village, Itsoseng, North West police said on Saturday.

The 36-year-old man and an accomplice, who is still at large, allegedly held a shop owner at gunpoint on Friday, Captain Pelonomi Makau said.

"The victim unlocked the burglar door of his business and the suspects held him at gunpoint.

The suspects demanded money and robbed the victim of his cash, cigarettes and airtime vouchers."

The shop owner managed to get away and call for help.

One of the community members was shot in the leg by one of the robbers before they fled the scene, Makau said.

"On their way, they met another victim, 31, who was driving home. The suspects fired gun shots in the air and instructed the victim to disembark his vehicle."

The men abandoned the vehicle when they could not start it. They fled the scene and one man was arrested at Bodibe village near Itsoseng.

He would appear in the Itsoseng Magistrate's court on Tuesday.
