Bloemfontein - Four people arrested in connection with acts of terrorism will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, police said.
Free State spokesperson Brigadier Billy Jones said the four men, aged between 40 and 50, would appear on a charge of treason and two other related charges of terrorism.
The men were believed to be rightwing extremists, Jones said on Monday.
He said more arrests were imminent in the case.
"The investigation continues."
Earlier, police said the arrested men were not linked to the ANC's 53rd elective conference in Mangaung.
Jones said there was at this stage no link with the conference at all.
"The acts of these suspects were countrywide."
Police said the men's premises were searched and evidence supporting the investigation was seized.
The arrests, which took place on Sunday, were the result of a successful joint law enforcement operation.
