Suspected gang leader arrested

2012-03-05 13:01
Johannesburg - A 31-year-old suspected gang leader was arrested on four counts of murder and robbery after police linked his firearm to other crimes, Limpopo police said on Monday.

The man was out on bail for armed robbery when police received the results of ballistic tests on his unlicensed firearm and linked him to crimes which took place in 2010, Constable Moses Molepo said.

"The gang was terrorising the Mankweng community, targeting couples visiting bushes for romantic purposes... Four men have been killed and four women were raped at a mountain near Nobody Ga Mothiba."

The man was arrested after a tip-off from local residents. Investigations were continuing and police expected to make more arrests.

The man was expected to appear in the Mankweng Magistrate's Court on Monday.
