Durban - Former Air Force colonel and Umkhonto we Sizwe operative Joel Mohoasa, 44, who allegedly killed his wife with a hand grenade in Amanzimtoti on Sunday morning, has appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

He is accused of throwing two grenades at his wife in their Karridene Road home.

One of the devices detonated and ripped through parts of the house.

Mohoasa cut a dejected figure as he hobbled into the dock, wearing only one shoe and sporting an old hooded jacket.

He was remanded ahead of his formal bail application, set down for September 11.

Letshego Nteke Mohoasa, 33, was rushed to hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning but died as a result of her injuries.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the suspect had, of his own volition, brought a four-day manhunt to an end.
