Johannesburg - A suspected hijacker was shot and killed in Eersterus on Sunday, police said.
"Police were following information about a gang of three people involved in ATM bombings, hijacking and house robberies in (the) Pretoria area," said police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini.
Police spotted two of the men suspected to be part of the gang driving a Mercedes Benz at high speed.
"While (police were) chasing the vehicle, it collided with two police vehicles.
"One suspect was shot and killed and the other one managed to escape."
Across Gauteng this week 34 people were arrested for house robbery, six for business robbery, seven for defrauding the department of housing and eleven for defrauding the road accident fund.
Also this week forty-five handguns and two R5 assault rifles were seized by police.
"These firearms will help in solving cases of business and house robberies, hijacking and murder," said Dlamini.
