Johannesburg - Two men were arrested for possession of a
suspected stolen vehicle after a car chase near Tembisa on Tuesday, Gauteng
police said.
A police reservist who was on his way home noticed a car
travelling at high speed and followed it, Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale
said.
He called for backup from the flying squad.
"The suspects noticed police on the Tembisa/Kempton
Park ramp. The suspects jumped out of their vehicle and fled into the nearby
cornfields," she said.
The two men were arrested, and a firearm was found in their
possession.
Police later established that the Audi they were travelling
in was reported as used in a hijacking in Doornkloof.
The pair will appear in court soon on charges of possession
of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of a suspected stolen
motor vehicle.
