R3m found stashed in boot

2011-12-14 17:07
Johannesburg - Two men, one of them a former police officer, have been arrested for possession of R3m of suspected stolen cash in Middelburg, in Mpumalanga, police said on Wednesday.

Lieutenant Colonel Leonard Hlathi said patrolling police stopped the car for a routine check on the N4 road on Tuesday morning.

"The officers found R3m stashed in the boot. Further search of the vehicle led to the discovery of genetic animal material."

Hlathi said the pair could not explain the origin of the money and the material.

"We suspect they are part of a rhino poaching syndicate."

The men were expected to face corruption and money laundering charges in the Middelburg Magistrate's Court soon.
