Durban - A man has been shot dead after he allegedly resisted arrest by shooting at police in Ngwelezane Township outside Empangeni, police said on Friday.
The deceased and three other men apparently robbed a man of his clothes on Thursday and left him naked in the road, Captain Thulani Zwane said.
"As the police approached the suspects, they started shooting at the police.
The police shot back, fatally wounding one suspect," he said.
The three other men ran away and were being sought.
Zwane said the police were conducting an investigation related to a stolen firearm when they saw a naked man running along the road. "The police stopped him and gathered information that he had just been robbed by four men armed with a firearm."
The victim pointed out the people who robbed him at a nearby tavern.
