Johannesburg - National police commissioner General Riah Phiyega has reinstated supply chain management divisional head Lieutenant General Gary Kruser.
Phiyega informed Kruser's subordinates last Monday at the division’s Silverton, Pretoria offices of her decision to "facilitate Kruser's harmonious re-introduction and integration".
In communication sent to SA Police Service employees last Tuesday, Phiyega said a "thorough and comprehensive" probe cleared Kruser, paving the way for him to be "integrated back into the division".
Kruser was informed three weeks ago of his reinstatement.
He had been on suspension for almost a year, after being suspended by Phiyega's predecessor, former acting police boss Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, in December 2011.
Kruser was reportedly accused of allegedly entering into a contract for the construction of 30 rural police stations without the necessary financial authority.
A former Umkhonto weSizwe deputy head of security, Kruser was tortured by notorious apartheid security cop Jeffrey Benzien with ANC bigwig Tony Yengeni in the 1980s.
He has been found to have done no wrong, according to Phiyega's message.
"There is no place in this organisation for conspiracies, back-stabbing, malicious gossip and rumour-mongering," said Phiyega.
Her spokesperson, Brigadier Phuti Setati, confirmed that Kruser was back at work after an internal investigation cleared him of all the charges.
Kruser told City Press he did not know why he was charged.
"I was sent to clean up the division, I may have rattled nerves," he said.
Kruser said he was well received by his colleagues with songs.
"Most people never doubted my innocence," he said.
