Swaziland will be a democracy - Cosatu

2012-09-06 22:33

Johannesburg - It will not be long before Swaziland is a democratic country, the Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) said on Thursday.

"This is not a promise but a fact, and none can deny it in the face of evidence as the regime daily demonstrates signs of collapse," Cosatu deputy president Zingiswa Losi told reporters in Johannesburg.

"The global working class has made it clear and loud, we shall be with you [Swaziland] however long it takes, wherever you are and however painful it feels."

Losi said Cosatu would not be silent about the situation in Swaziland as it was told to do, because South Africa had its own problems.

"When we were in struggle, many of our friends all over the world didn't ignore us on the basis of that flimsy excuse."

She said other countries had sacrificed for South Africa and that is what Cosatu was doing for Swaziland.

Cosatu did not want to dictate to the Swazi people how they should drive their struggle, but it was offering support.

The trade union federation's members had been going into Swaziland every month to support the people there.

Cosatu held a meeting in Johannesburg this week with trade union leaders from around Africa.

Representatives from Nigeria, Angola, Ghana, Kenya, Luanda, Zimbabwe and Senegal were present.

This was part of the global week of action for Swaziland.

Swaziland will be a democracy, fact. But its only Swazis who will make sure it happens, not Cosatu not South Africa, so mind your own business

coulnt agree more, cosatu must deal with SA problems, like the marikana issue, and many other labour issues they are overlooking and let the Swazis deal with their Mzwati.

Ohh shoosh COSATU are you democratic yourselves?!

  • JAbu.R15 - 2012-09-07 08:14

Cosatu, youth league and everyone who wants to change other countries other than Mzansi, mind you own business. they say he who lieves in a glass stone shouldnt throw stones. As we speak, we have lost hope in our own democrasy and the government we voted for, so rather than deviding your efforts, work hard in making sure south africans get what they deserve and let the the people of swaziland firght this battle.

Cosatu, why dont you clean up in your own back yard before you start on your neighbours. You need to go and study democracy because you and your organization dont know the true meaning. All you guys ever think about is the struggle, pull your heads out your a-se and you will see the struggle went away 18 years ago. Stop living in the past and start to look to the future. Why dont you take all the old struggle comrades that cant get it out of their system and go and help the struggle in some war torn country. You people are all sick in the upper story ....go and get some help. No wonder our country cant get out of the Jungle and make it into the real world.
