Tax fraud suspect kills himself
Johannesburg - A man allegedly linked to tax fraud shot himself near Hartebeespoort Dam after police handed him a warrant for his arrest, the SA Revenue Service said on Monday.
Beeld reported on Tuesday that the fraud was in the region of R60m.
Police and Sars were carrying out a search-and-seizure operation at a business on Monday afternoon, spokesperson Adrian Lackay said.
"Upon being presented with the search-and-seizure orders as well as a warrant for his arrest, the taxpayer stated that he did not want to go to jail. Regrettably, the taxpayer then committed suicide by shooting himself at his business premises.
"Sars will ensure that further investigations are conducted with the necessary sensitivity and understanding for the trauma that the family of the taxpayer must be going through."
