Johannesburg - Two people were killed and 15 others were critically injured when a taxi and a bakkie burst into flames after a head-on collision on the R101, north of Pretoria, the Tshwane community safety department said.
According to witnesses, the taxi was trying to overtake and collided head-on with an oncoming bakkie, on the road between Hammanskraal and Petronela, said spokesperson Console Tleane.
"Two occupants in the bakkie died at the scene while 15 people in the taxi sustained critical injuries," he said.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire and the injured were taken to the Jubilee hospital.
"The road was closed and traffic is being diverted to Lusthof Road," said Tleane.
