Johannesburg - One person died and 28 others were injured in an accident on the N2 north-bound in Durban on Wednesday afternoon, paramedics said.

The N2 was closed after a minibus taxi was wedged between two trucks, ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said.

"We found the taxi squeezed in between two trucks. One person died and 28 others were treated for injuries ranging from minor to serious."

Four people still trapped in the taxi were in a critical condition. One patient was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

The cause of the accident had not yet been established.

A taxi rolled there yesterday afternoon as well. I have seen 4 taxis rear end each other at once , the first one rear ended a cressida and three slammed into each other behind him. Right where the N2 branches off to Umlazi.

28 Injured, shoo. Maybe it was one of those mini buses. My sympathy to the family that has lost their loved one and to the injured. Maybe the government must have this AARTO thing where drivers from time to time are taken to a driving test, if they fail then they are not allowed to drive simple! As for passangers, it`s their responsibility to refuse an overload, the police must fine the passengers not the driver. Problem solved.

      Nokwanda you are an IDIOT

Why do you all automatically assume it was the taxi driver in the wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Lee - 2012-04-05 09:24

Because that is normally the case and reading Julian's comment only makes me assume that the Taxi tried to squeeze in between the two trucks to get to the otherside in time to take the off ramp or something causing the truck at the back to ram into the taxi. It is known that it is very difficult for huge trucks to stop in a short space of time as it is and if the taxi did squeez in between the two trucks then it is the taxi's fault.
