Taxi 'flips into air', killing 7

Pretoria - Seven people were killed and five others were injured when a minibus taxi overturned on the Mabopane Highway near Rosslyn on Monday, paramedics said.

"Three people were in a critical condition and at least two others sustained serious injuries," said ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.

He said emergency rescuers from the Tshwane fire department had to use the jaws-of-life to free some of the trapped people.

A witness told paramedics that the taxi was travelling towards Pretoria from Soshanguve when it suddenly appeared as if it was flipped in the air before crashing between the highway and the railway.

Vermaak said paramedics found the taxi lying on its roof on the railway tracks.
