Johannesburg - Two taxi passengers heading for Port
Elizabeth were arrested in Grahamstown after they were caught with bags of
dagga, Eastern Cape police said on Friday.
The men, 20 and 30-years-old, were arrested on the N2 on
Thursday after highway patrollers stopped and checked the taxi and its loaded
trailer, said police spokesperson Mali Govender.
"All the passengers were asked to stand with their
bags and [there were] two bags that were not claimed by any of the passengers,
" said Govender.
The taxi driver denied knowing to whom they belonged.
"Two passengers assisted the police and pointed out
who the owners of the bags were," said Govender.
The bags contained 16kg of dagga with an estimated street
value of around R16 000.
The men were arrested and charged with dagga possession.
They would appear in the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court
on Monday.
