Taxi rolls, bus hits houses
Durban - Two people died and 44 were injured in two accidents in Durban on Tuesday morning, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.
“Two people were killed and 15 others were injured… when a minibus taxi overturned on the N3 west-bound carriageway near Paradise Valley in Pietermaritzburg,” said Netcare911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks.
The taxi rolled several times before stopping and leaning sideways.
ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said all occupants of the taxi were ejected from the vehicle when it rolled.
Traffic on the N3 between the M7 and Paradise Valley was heavily affected as some lanes were closed due to the accident at 08:00.
In another accident, 29 people were injured when the driver of a bus lost control of the vehicle and crashed into houses on Sibisi road in KwaMashu.
“It is alleged that the bus had been travelling west when the driver lost control of the coach which left the road and laid waste to several houses coming to rest in a property adjacent to the roadside,” said Wicks.
He said the injured passengers were found next to the road waiting for assistance.
“Traffic was severely affected because of the accidents. The injured were rushed to hospitals for further care,” said Wicks.
