Taxi smashes pedestrian into tour bus

Pretoria - A pedestrian was killed on Tuesday when a minibus taxi jumped a red light in central Pretoria and ploughed into a tour bus carrying Chinese tourists on their way to see the Union Buildings, police said.

Tshwane Metro Police spokesperson Louise Brits said another two pedestrians were injured, as were 13 passengers in the taxi.

The pedestrian died at the scene from injuries caused by being squashed between the taxi and the bus.

She said the injured were taken to various hospitals in the city and the taxi driver was arrested on a charge of culpable homicide.

The 35 Chinese tourists and their tour guide were not injured.

Several roads in the city centre were closed during rush hour traffic as police cleared up the accident scene.

Brits said the driver was expected to appear in court soon.
