Teacher, gang leader held for crime spree

2012-04-17 13:33

Durban - Two Mariannhill gang members were arrested in connection with eight murders, two armed robberies and four hijackings near Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old gang leader and a 34-year-old teacher from a local school were arrested at their homes on Monday, Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge said.

The teacher was found with a .38 revolver, which a police investigation showed was used during the crimes.

The firearm had also been linked to two murders where security guards were robbed of their firearms and shot dead in Chatsworth, said Mdunge.

The two men were expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court soon.

Mdunge said the crimes happened in the Mariannhill area last month.

"The police are confident that the two outstanding gang members will be traced and arrested soon."

This teacher has exposed himself as an hoax and an imposter, he's education and "achievement" must be seriously investigated I think he has a lessor education than form 4 small break . He knows of some cops that have done this and just recently some have been caught yet he tries he's luck at it. when and where does he want to learn?

  • Shirley - 2012-04-17 14:06

Is this a taste of things to come? Today the criminals walk among us in suites and ties,we dont have a clue! Shocking! Hope he gets a sentence serious enough to match the crime!

      Zimbobwe - 2012-04-17 14:22

This has been going on for years, it's just that it was not reported. I know one of my teachers who used to come to school with an Okapi. He even stabbed his girlfriend who was one of the students.

  • Rob - 2012-04-17 14:28

The " Gang leader " was probably an ex pupil of the teachers.

  • Irene - 2012-04-17 14:50

What's the bet the teacher belongs to SADTU? If they're not running people down, they're thieving. Eish, what happened to the proper teachers before the cANCer took over?

      Rob - 2012-04-17 15:10

Irene...They " turned a whiter shade of pale " & the cANCer replaced them with " their people. "

      amos.simelane - 2012-04-17 22:21

No, he is not a SADTU member. Latest info says he is "Witwolf"

Surely a 34 year old teachwer should have a prior? He cant suddenly choose a criminal life after living normally for 33 years. Are any background checks done when applying for a job as a teacher.?
