Teacher in court over boys' rape

Piet Retief - A 26-year-old teacher appeared in the Piet Retief Magistrate's Court in Mpumalanga on Tuesday on two charges of sexual assault.

The teacher is accused of raping two young boys in separate incidents.

“A 10-year-old boy was allegedly raped in May last year, while the suspect is believed to have raped a nine-year-old boy in August this year,” said Piet Retief police spokesperson Magonseni Nkosi.

“The first boy never reported the rape to his parents. Only after he started losing concentration at school and soiling his pants was he questioned by his parents and did he explain what had happened to him."

The nine-year-old boy, who lives next to the first alleged victim, alerted the police about his ordeal after he saw them taking a statement from his neighbour.

A doctor has confirmed that both victims have been penetrated.

The teacher, who was arrested on Monday, has been remanded in police custody and will appear in court again on September 16, when he will apply for bail.
