Johannesburg - A woman in her 60s was knocked down and killed by a car driven by a teacher near Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.
"She was walking across the road and a car coming from the Lusikisiki direction knocked her down. They (the car's occupants) tried to swerve, but the woman was too far across the road. She died on the scene," said Captain Mduduzi Godlwana.
He said the driver and her female passenger were teachers on their way to the school, adding the victim was a resident of the Unity Park township not far from Lusikisiki.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened.
