Teachers, cops in court for assault

2012-05-16 07:24

Mahikeng - Five men accused of kicking and punching eight boys appeared in the Christiana Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, North West police said.

Brigadier Thulane Ngubane said the boys' teachers, Daniel Morewa Lentshwe, 25, and Thabiso William Mbityekana, 27, were arrested on Thursday morning.

Two policemen Fickson Mogale, 30, and Samson Lizwe, 34, and 22-year-old caretaker Thabang Phepeng were arrested on Friday.

The teachers were granted bail of R1 000 each. Phepeng was released on a warning.

The case was postponed until June 21 for further investigation.

The teachers and the caretaker allegedly assaulted the boys, aged between seven and 13, on May 6. They accused them of breaking into their house.

The boys were also allegedly beaten by the policemen while being held at the police station.

The arrests followed a Daily Sun report on a 30-minute video of the assaults.

Really brave. Attacking boys aged 7-13 makes you a man! Filming it makes you an idiot. It does not matter if they were guilty - what if even one of the boys was innocent? This is barbaric.

What if one was innocent? Then he was shown the error of his ways in choosing friends like that. At least he will think twice if he ever decides to break into someones house .... again.

Listen, i can understand why a beating could happen, when someone steals and breaks things that you have worked hard for, then a beating must follow!! in the eastern cape we find guys like that (thieves) being caught and then being released within a few days, so where is the punishment. With that said, its such a tough place to be at, since they need to be punished and who will if you dont? and what is deemed as punishment? If i were to steal, i know that punishment will follow thus except for a decent upbringing, i know not to do it again. If you do not stop kids from behaving in the incorrect way early in life, they WILL turn out to be criminals! So hwta is seen as the greater evil here?

Incidents like this are just one of the signs of how SA is descending into anarchy. Instead of lauding mob justice we should condemn it. Tomorrow it is one of us who could be at the receiving end of mob injustice just 'cos someone says we did something.

I CAN UNDERSTAND WANTING TO BIT THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF THESE LITTLE THIEVES - AS THERE SEEMS TO BE NO DISCIPLINE OR JUSTICE IN THIS COUNTRY. BUT RECORDING IT IS JUST PLAIN STUPID. UNFORTUNATELY, THE CRIMINALS IN THIS COUNTRY ARE THE ONLY ONES WITH RIGHTS - SO IT IS MORE THAN LIKELY THAT THESE KIDS WILL GET AWAY WITH IT.

James - it is really sad what I read on the web page, I feel really sorry for you and your family. And hope and trust that you would heal from that messy situation. But thank you for opening my eyes and the publics eyes. She will burn in hell for what she has done with her comrades who got the case thrown out. Oh and next time you see her, give her some of her own medicine. She would enjoy it!!

You bloody adults full of vengeance that you think you are justified to mete out your violent "punishment" at every deed, did you for once consider? 1. Whether these boys stay with their parents and ARE NOT GUILTY OF THIS CRIME. Somebody else might have done this crime. So this African justice nonsense is an expression of directionless anger (2) the age of these boys. Even if they did, this is just being naughty not because for real they are hardened criminals who deserve to be punished. My laptop was stolen and out of anger I nearly did the same to this young boy who was washing my car only to find that there is real criminal who to this day I want to moer and he is tacticall avoiding me by pretending to be leaving everytime I approach. Cum on people these are children even if they do wrong it is out of peer influence.

How many days must the corruption and total lack of respect for the law by Police officer be splashed across our news for people to start realizing that the Police are more of a threat than the criminals are?
