Teen dies at FS initiation school

Johannesburg - A boy died after falling ill at an initiation school in Ficksburg in the Free State, police said on Sunday.

The 16-year-old initiate had complained of dizziness around noon on Saturday, Captain Phumelelo Dhlamini said.

"The men who look after the initiates told him to sleep under a tree," he said.

"When they woke him up around 19:00, he remained silent."

Paramedics declared the initiate dead a short while later.

Dhlamini said the youth was admitted to the school in the middle of November. An inquest docked was opened.

A post-mortem would determine the cause of death, he said.
