Teen held for hanging cat, kittens

2012-03-26 10:00
Pretoria - Residents of a village near Hammanskraal north of Pretoria have been shocked by a local teenager’s vicious act of cruelty towards her cat and its five kittens.

The 19-year-old school pupil was arrested after hanging the cat and its 3-day-old kittens from a tree, the Times reported. She will appear in court on Monday.

The incident happened on Human Rights Day.

A neighbour’s child found the cats and alerted authorities but by the time the SPCA arrived, the cats had died.

An angry neighbour said they didn’t understand why she had killed her cats and not given them away.

An SPCA inspector described the incident as “shocking” and said the cats had not been a threat to her.

The SPCA opened a case of animal cruelty at Temba police station, and the teenager was arrested.
