Teen in court for stabbing teacher

2011-03-18 11:38

Johannesburg - A 17-year-old boy who allegedly stabbed a teacher at a Soweto high school was expected to appear in Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Friday, Gauteng police said.

The teenager was facing a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele.

He allegedly stabbed a teacher in the stomach on Thursday and ran off. Hours later, he was arrested in Dobsonville.

Makhubele said the female teacher remained in a stable condition in the Tshepo-Themba Private hospital and there was a possibility she could be discharged later in the day.

Pupils and teachers at the school received counselling after the incident, said Makhubele.

The incident came a day after the Congress of SA Students (Cosas) called on schoolchildren to retaliate when hit by teachers.

"We call on all students to fight fire with fire, when teachers hit you, you must hit back," said Cosas provincial chairperson Ntsako Mogobe at a press briefing on Wednesday.

Hit the teacher they said. SO I used a knife...

      Warren Pollard - 2011-03-18 11:53

      Clever lad... WTF

      Thas-Man - 2011-03-18 12:52

@Nice Gy, and what may those life skills bethat's necessary for living as a black man in SA?

      Gallows - 2011-03-18 12:55

Obviously trying to kill those that try to help you, then blame it on something which didn't even happen in your lifetime.

      ivory - 2011-03-18 15:01

niceguy - you're not a nice guy anyway. But lets just stick to the point. How can you teach children to fight fire with fire. No wonder there are no discipline in today's schools. Where are the days where you kept your mouth shut if the teacher talks to you, we had respect back then for adults. It doesn't matter if the teacher was unreasonable you still don't scream or hit or stab the teacher... So, would you stab your parents then if they are disciplining you??? So you say we should teach children: Just hit or stab the teacher if she's strict on you ???

  • Michelle - 2011-03-18 11:50

Now what to Cosas say about this little incident???

      Flee - 2011-03-18 14:02

Michelle, they actually said this morning that Security needs to be beefed up at schools... WTF they are a bunch of contradictory ill educated idiots...

  • Chris - 2011-03-18 11:53

Ntsako Mogobe - now you have reason to feel proud!

  • paulf - 2011-03-18 11:54

How stupid can you be making decisions like that (Fight Fire with Fire). Absolutely no culture or mentality at all!!!!

      Gallows - 2011-03-18 12:49

Having an idiotic mentality is their culture.

  • Melly30 - 2011-03-18 11:57

GREAT EXAMPLE - ANC, please step dowm and all your comrades, look what you are TEACHING OUR YOUTH OF TODAY... I am truely disgusted!!!!! Ntsako Mogobe - this is your fault! Now least see how you will put out this fire! DICKHEAD!

      ElgntlyWastd - 2011-03-18 12:17

Im not white and I HATE the ANC. The only retard around here is you-- walking around with blinkers on, not noticing what your "wonderful" ANC is doing to our country.

      1gascan - 2011-03-18 12:44

@Thas-Man - Judging by your comments, you are too far gone... Sing after me now: "Baa baa black sheep Have you any wool?" By the way, what website did you purchase your HONOURS degree from, or was that donated by your glorious government? Also, the fact that you have an honours degree would mean that you are much older than 20, which would beg the question as to why you would still be the member of a youth league...? Again, sing with me: "Baa baa black sheep Have you any wool?"

      Melly30 - 2011-03-18 12:46

Thas-Man - I dont have a problem with BLACK people, I have a problem with the ANC and what they are doing to this country of our you stupid idiot! Take your racist comments elsewhere! Clearly you hate the whites... US our forefathers made a mistake, but WE as a NATION should move forward... BUT KNOW PEOPLE LIKE YOU CANT... This will be your down fall, I dont see why we should suffer because of IDIOTS like you!!!! Carry on Voting for them... Your choice! A dumb one I might add!

      WaxinLyrical - 2011-03-18 12:53

@Thas-Man, we are really tired of the race card hey, lets stop worrying about black white blue and yellow and start worrying about right and wrong, and progress, Not just progree for some..PROGRESS FOR ALL. The ANC used to be something we could be proud of, but they have let us down, ALL OF US, SOUTH AFRICANS! and thats what its about being a strong proud leading country not slaves to a white man, than slaves to a black man!! Lets do whats right, the ANC only worry about filling their pockets while their are peopel straving and struggling, PEOPLE, that means black, white, indian, coloured, we all suffer under their greedy selfish rule... and stop making excuses for your life, if you are not successful, its your own doing! Mandela grew up in the midst of apartheid and he was an educated fair man.. follow his example and learn some empathy for humanity

      Janine - 2011-03-18 12:55

      @Thas-Man - that explains a lot.

      Thas-Man - 2011-03-18 12:57

@Melly30, I am 27 years of age for your information. So by voting ANC I am making the wrong choice? Should I vote for DA,FF+ or whatever stupid party there is out there? I am far from being a racist, I am a realist. I work with white people daily and I have seen their behaviour around an educated black person and I must say that the one's I work with still have that mentality of your FOREFATHERS, it's unfortunate that they have to deal with me on a daily basis. They hate the fact that they have to report to me (a black man). You must 1st be the change you want to see in your society and the beloved RSA, before you look at someone's faults please fix your own you moron.

      Fredster69 - 2011-03-18 12:58

@Thas-Man. ..I bet you if someone asks you if you are a racist, you will say no...

      Melly30 - 2011-03-18 12:58

      Thas-Man, go boil an egg!

      Melly30 - 2011-03-18 13:03

@Thas-Man, I am glad you have a great job, sorry for those "whites" who have to report to you... Not all of us are the same! Well done, a pat on your back! BUT why vote for the ANC when they are RAPING this country! THE ANC HAS CHANGED... Wake up dude!

      WaxinLyrical - 2011-03-18 13:08

@ thas man, they probably hate reporting to you NOT BECAUSE YOU BLACK but because you have a rotten degrading attitude towards people who are not black, because you insecure about your race so you throw your weight around to re affirm your own importance to yourself- plainly, you insecure and rascist..

      Picasso - 2011-03-18 13:15

Guys, don't be so hard on Thas-man, he is just following his ancestors, living the African way.

      1gascan - 2011-03-18 13:18

@Thas-Man - OK, so you are 27... still doesn't explain why you are one of Ju Ju's puppets in the ANCYL! You call all the other political parties stupid - another obvious indication that you are blinded by the drivel that is spewed by your "comrades". I am sorry that there are those few people that report to you that are still stuck in the "old-era" mindset - it gives the rest of us who want peace and unity a bad name, but you know what they say hey? Monkey see monkey do... As far as I am concerned, you are doing exactly the same thing that your staff are doing. All we are saying is open your eyes, see what the ANC was and has become, and then decide for yourself. If the ANC was run like it did just after the 1994 elections, I am almost certain that it would have more support now that it ever had before, including all us whitey's, but the greed and corruption that has been indoctrinated into the party has taken its toll, and the cracks are showing! Say what you want, but I honestly cannot understand your logic!

      Grant - 2011-03-18 13:19

Thas-man. I am prepared to bet that the 'whites' hate reporting to you (if what you claim is true) because that huge chip you are carrying on your shoulder is patently obvious as evidenced in the same arrogant, abusive and pig-headed manner that you display on this forum. They may also well be resentful that you have been promoted over their heads simply because you are black, not because you posses any skills or experience. At 27 you certainly have not been in the workplace long enough to have aquired any real experience -it would have taken till 25/26 to get the honours degree you puport to posess.

      Melly30 - 2011-03-18 13:31

@Thas-Man - I see you deleted your first comment!! WONDER WHY!?????

      Ruan - 2011-03-18 13:57

Thas-man, I really get the feeling that you are really racist and do not like white people at all. I can’t really understand why? I mean you’re an educated black man and your only 27. You did not go through the “struggle” like your father did. I am 29, and I have never hated black people the way you hate white people. Why? I also studied, with no help from any political party or even my parents. I had to pay my own way (student loans). Now since you are an educated man, please explain to me, 1) what the white man has done to you to make you such a racist. 2) Why do you support the ANC? (Now since you’re an educated man I am hoping for you to give me an educated answer, don’t just tell me, because they are black. This is your chance to give me proof that the ANC is for all). I have a lot of black friends, and they are all educated, and not one of them could tell me why I should vote for the ANC, or why they feel the ANC is the best party for me. It must be said that they do not support the ANC anymore, but let’s leave that for another time. I am really looking forward to your reply.

      Melly30 - 2011-03-18 14:08

      Well said Ruan;)

      Rao - 2011-03-18 15:30

@WaxinLyrical I'm very impressed with your last comment. My only problem is that I haven't seen any political party that can lead this country. ANC played their part but now they're losing it and I don't trust Hellen Zelle. Who can be the great leader of this country?

      Jo - 2011-04-11 22:47

Thas-man, vote for anyone who can lead by example and manage some of the crazier 'unions' and leagues who just make things infinitely worse. If you can't find anyone who fits your requirement, start a party. Cosas should have never felt they had the right to say something this foolish and irresposible to to 12, 13-17 year olds. Who is to pay for all the security when there are schools without books? If any of the student unions and youth leagues gave a damn about the youth and learners of SA, they'd have been travelling to each of these schools and telling both students and teachers to get their act together and behave like they have something to learn and teach. Anger is not a viable quality for employment - in fact, anger at this level makes it pretty hard to get or keep a job at all. SA's youth is being short-changed, lied to and let down by everyone. They don't need politicians - they need parents, teachers, clean cops and humble leaders - people who love them more than they love themselves.

  • 1gascan - 2011-03-18 12:03

My post was deleted, but basically what I said was why did the reporters say that the the child was 14 (in the article yesterday), and today he is 17???

      Vernon - 2011-03-18 12:10

      chris.debeer1 - 2011-03-18 12:23

hi he has grown up!!! yesterday was yesterday ok

      1gascan - 2011-03-18 12:33

Wow! you both sure you guys aren't 14 either? I was merely saying this, because it is far more shocking for a 14 year old student to stab a person than it is for a 17 year old... The stabbing is apalling nonetheless... Just saying!

      hantiejansenvanvuuren - 2011-03-18 14:59

They probably thought he was 14 because he was in grade 9.

  • anita.nortje - 2011-03-18 12:06

First the kids burned down the free schools…. Now they are killing the teachers who provide free education….. Poverty will always flourish…..

      Gallows - 2011-03-18 12:57

Don't forget about killing the farmers who provide SA's food. Well done kids, well done.

  • Rob Gunning - 2011-03-18 12:52

It was predicted (on this forum in fact) that this would happen and it didn't take long. Well done Cosas, I hope you're happy with what you ahve caused.

  • sowhereto - 2011-03-18 13:18

The pupil should be punished, however the teacher is equally guilty according to the law(corporal punishment is not allowed). I wish her a speedily recovery and hope that she will refrain from slapping school kids nowadays because they fight fire with fire(in this case a mini volcano)

      Johnny - 2011-03-18 15:09

OK, but where in the article did it mention that the teacher used 'corporal punishment' ? NO mention is made of that. Unless I was mis-reading the article. Please dont make assumptions. You know what is said about that :)

      sowhereto - 2011-03-18 15:26

@Johnny, I read the story somewhere else before it was posted on news24 and they had more details than they have on this article. What we should do is maybe ask the reporters to not leave out any other information because it leads to bias commenting.

      Rethabile - 2011-03-18 15:28

actually the teacher reprimanded the learner after she found him littering in the chool grounds, and the learner pulled a knife .....sick if u ask me

  • Jacques - 2011-03-18 13:30

No respect for authority is what these kids are taught at home. Problem is not the kids or the authorities, but rather lack of jobs for people who continue to breed without morality or sanity.

  • Monkey123 - 2011-03-18 13:35

And the ANC claims that their "comments" do not affect their people's behaviour. Here is concrete proof that the "kill the boer" song these idiots sing DO infact influence their people. They are like sheep who can't think for themselves. If Malema says, kill, they not only kill... but rape, steal, vandalise and then kill. If ANC says hit back... they grab a knife and stab. You can take them out of the bush... you all know the rest.

  • Le sage - 2011-03-18 13:57

Welcome to Zumalema Land.. now being claimed by cosas....

  • oneManIsland - 2011-03-18 14:37

I have to wonder if these idiots even understand what it means to fight fire with fire. If you don’t want to learn then don’t go to school, if you do then behave well. No teacher no matter how bad is going to hit a well behaved student. And you might even find fighting fire with water is more effective, but you would have to go to school to learn that.
