Cape Town - A 13-year-old boy was injured while sand boarding on the beach between Brenton on Sea and Buffalo Bay, the NSRI said on Wednesday.

In a statement, NSRI Knysna station commander, Jerome Simonis said they received the call at 13:30 from one of the guides at Sand Boarding Tours.

"It was suspected that the teenager had suffered a dislocation or fracture of his left knee which was splinted and secured by our NSRI medics as a precautionary measure and we then carried the teenager, secured to a stretcher, about a kilometre along the beach of Brenton on Sea where an awaiting ER24 ambulance and paramedic crew took over treatment. They transported the teenager to hospital in a stable condition for X-Rays and further treatment," said Simonis.

He said they were later able to confirm with the teenager's family that he had suffered torn ligaments to his left leg. The boy was presently in a stable condition and being treated at Knysna hospital, said Simonis.
