2011-12-20 10:56

Johannesburg - A woman was arrested for killing her 1-year-old child in Mqanduli, 34km south of Mthatha, on Monday, said Eastern Cape police.

Lieutenant Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said police arrested the 18-year-old mother after being notified about the incident during the evening.

Police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the child's death.

Fatyela said the mother was expected to appear in the Mandula Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on a charge of murder.

Don't want it anymore...? Kill it! Simple as that!

      Bardy - 2011-12-20 11:31

By "it" I am referring to what the mothers think of these babies. They have no heart!

      Bardy - 2011-12-20 11:48

@ Makatika - I am not even going to answer such a half hearted, stupid thought over comment, attempting to trol @ me!! Go back to school... Maybe the grade 2's will find that one insulting! Hahahaha!

      Squeegee - 2011-12-20 12:49

Well, how do you blame a teenager who is taught that its ok to kill the baby before its born - actually the state will support you doing this, it will not even inform your parents. Then, once its born you cannot get rid of it. So, its trash before birth and highly protected after birth. Schizo! Teach respect for life before and after birth. Teach all young people to value human life at all times.

      DayanGovender - 2011-12-20 12:55

@ Makatika - dude I think you are missing the point here - she did not want the child so she kills the child - point being made is that it might as well have been an 'it', something irrelevant in her life. I sometimes wonder why ppl like her can have babies and those who deserve them can't.

      Harold - 2012-01-01 16:08

Why not it is just delayed abortions. Read the news today and see how many teenagers gave birth to day. Most of the farthers are adult men and even their own relatives. Sis man South African are like animals.

  • Phumezo - 2011-12-20 11:19

This is still a country of two nations. Thabo Mbeki once said: “The second and larger nation of South Africa is black and poor, with the worst affected being women in the rural areas, the black rural population in general and the disabled. This nation lives under conditions of grossly underdeveloped economic, physical, educational, communication and other infrastructure. It has virtually no possibility to exercise what in reality amounts to a theoretical right to equal opportunity, with that right being equal within this black nation only to the extent that it is equally incapable of realization.” This my freinds is the cause of all these crimes and what the whites refuse to acknowladge!

      Bardy - 2011-12-20 11:21

There is no excuse on earth to murder! This mother will burn in hell!

      Irma - 2011-12-20 11:22

Phumezo, are you justifying this murder?

      Moi - 2011-12-20 11:30

Right....so that gives someone an excuse to murder their own child????? I'll never acknowledge any "excuse" given for such behaviour.

      jruppersberg - 2011-12-20 11:30

@Phumeza. Nearly 2 decades after apartheid and you are still blaming whites for all your shortcomings. Poor stupid ass thing...

      Hennie - 2011-12-20 11:33

Wake up MAN !!, where are you living???If you are saying that the excuse for this act is because of poverty and poorness , then I am sorry these people are morons to even have a child. And the Government should have done something about this long ago. There is nobody that is going to help them except GOD if you believe in Him.

      Tyron - 2011-12-20 11:36

please explain how u can bring the race card to the story!! your just as disgusting as the mother of this poor innocent child

      Heini - 2011-12-20 11:39

I was going to comment on this tragic story, but instead I will spend my time telling you, what an absolute, ignorant, idiot you are!!

      Lee - 2011-12-20 11:57

Phumezo it is not fair for you to say that us whites refuse to acknowledge as I think we are the first to lend a helping hand and to help those less fortunate whilst the Government and people who have been nominated or chose foundations to take care of various communities in order to raise funds for those in need have just abused and used or have just stolen millions and millions instead of using the funds that ALL of us put into the country for such situations. I am in the future not in the past and plenty could have been done if it wasn't for stealing, greed and lack of knowledge from people who we all supposed to look up to.

      Jeffrey - 2011-12-20 12:01

There are numerous countries around the world where poverty is worse than in SA, many of them were formerly colonised, but you don't see the levels of crime in these other countries that you see here. It's not just a matter of poverty.

      Lyndatjie - 2011-12-20 12:28

In the same speech in 1998 he also said.... "In a speech again in this House, we quoted the African-American poet, Langston Hughes when he wrote - "what happens to a dream deferred?" His conclusion was that it explodes." Its a pity that people reacting so negatively to your brilliant quote have no knowledge of this speech and the element warning behind it. If they did - then they would understand that Mbeki rang the warning bell and very few listened - proof being the general state of our politics at this point in time. Sad that those capable of independent and realistic thought are still being shouted down by the ignorant and blinkered. Very sad.... :(

      Shirley - 2011-12-20 12:33

And what pray tell are the affluent blacks doing to aide their brothers and educating them? Surely you are not saying that because you are poor the knowledge that killing another human is wrong is unapparent to them???Your Mr Mbeki had his facts wrong-there are poor in all races in S.A.andthe only difference is that the black disadvantaged get all the "air time" whilst others fade into obscurity! Mbeki shouldnt speak-he contributed to this poverty by denying aids patients the proper treatment, thus causing far more orphans, households without bread winners!!

      DiamondDirk - 2011-12-20 12:36

Come on Phumezo, this racial blaming is getting very tiresome. The white people are not the problem, neither are the black, indian or coloured community. The problem is discipline. One of my best friends is a Xhosa and he feels very strongly that the youth of today has no respect for anyone or anybody. That includes all races.

      Gomotsegang - 2011-12-20 12:52

Agh Phumezo...there is no excuse for committing crime...this has nothing to do with race or poverty...i crime was committed, whether it was a black or white or indian person it doesnt matter...! a child was murdered!

      Lillian - 2011-12-20 13:03

Phumezo...that is a very general comment. My father is white, grew up so poverty stricken that your definition of poverty would pale by comparison. He was only allowed a grade 4 education because he had to work to support his family. At age 10 he was working in another town far away from his family, in construction ( carting bricks and building walls at age 10!!!!), he slept on the floor with his siblings on a thin matress, in a rat infested store room,no water or electricity. Diet was cabbage and potatoes- no protein. Many died of malnutrition around him. He was able to buy his first pair of shoes at age 16. But you know what???? Despite the circumstances no one in that family ever stole anything, or murdered anyone, or commited any crime. They didn't use their circumstance as an excuse to do anything morally wrong. They would rather starve than steal. Poverty is not an excuse for bad choices. Yes, no one is saying that life in poverty is rosy- some of us understand that better than others, but don't give me that crap about- oh it is because of poverty and the white administration of the past. Many black and white underprivelaged people have made a success of their lives- why??? It comes down to hard work, self sacrifice and not expecting anyone to owe you anything. Your government, neighbours, teachers...no one owes you anything. If you want success then work for it with a burning passion- but in a good, honest, moral way.

      Tashie.lc1 - 2011-12-20 13:08

I have never read a story on News24 where race is not brought up. It's so tiresome. Poverty and lack of education has nothing to do with this. Neither does apartheid. Go read Eleni - a true story of a mother who did everything to get her children to safety and she was VERY poor as well as completely uneducated. You insist on blaming white people for everything. Guess it's easier than admitting that there are real issues in South Africa that needs to be addressed.

      Sattva - 2011-12-20 14:01

What a load of crap !

  • nishaatf - 2011-12-20 11:23

  • Barefoot - 2011-12-20 11:27

what do you know! . . .The worst murder of the week award considerations continue, seems like all entrants this week are teens but we might get a doc or who knows a nun. teen stabs dad still tops the list . . . . . . . . . . . don't bite me 'm tired of all the murder reports they no longer amaze me 'm desensitized. she should have given the kid up for adoption.

      DiamondDirk - 2011-12-20 12:41

@Barefoot - I am with you on that. These kids killing people are getting very tiresome. I wonder if the media stops reporting on murder and other crimes if that wouldn't have a positive effect on the crime rate.

  • Hennie - 2011-12-20 11:28

She has to answer to GOD for what she has done. This is a act not to be forgiven.Does she actual realize what she has done.?These behaviors should be punished by DEATH..(This is none excusable)..She and all others like her should be sentenced to Death.!!!!!

      Tyron - 2011-12-20 11:37

then who will answer to your GOD when we bring back the death penalty, were was your god to protect this child

      Irma - 2011-12-20 11:44

At Tyron, the Bible says an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Would you prefer this woman lives to have more children and kill them one at a time? I just read a story about a woman who killed her five chilren (on this site, woman made children drink brake fluid). The death penalty should be brought back and when once Judgement Day comes, everyone, including those killed by the death penalty, will have to have their judgement handed down to them. We just want them gone so they don't inflict this on anyone else.

  • Bob - 2011-12-20 11:29

This is sad…! Possibly find that she had the baby to get the grant…then found out it cost MUCH more to feed every month than the grant..! So dispose of it!

  • Azande - 2011-12-20 11:31

I humbly request we keep our cool before judging in this matter. The article does not give enough information which confirms that this alleged killer mom, contemplated and deliberately killed her little child. If you see the article, police are saying "they will investigate the circumstances surrounding the child's death", from that one can easily presume that there are possible chances that the murder was not premeditated. It would be really sad if we were to find out that the death was caused by a mistake committed by the mother and she is regretful and hates herself for such.

      Irma - 2011-12-20 11:49

True. I suppose the tone of the article and the title "Teen Mom Kills Her Baby" kinda makes it sounds that, well, she killed her baby and not by accident. It will be sad if it was just an accident.

      Azande - 2011-12-20 12:07

Journos always market their articles by sometimes titling it very controversially, just to entice the potential reader. I’m not saying it’s the case here, just citing common conduct of juornos. I still want to believe that this was not premeditated but would at the same time reserve my judgement until more information is shared with us.

      Bongani - 2011-12-20 12:10

@Azande. You are right, but nobody at the age of 18 is fit to take care of a child yet. These grants have created more problems than solutions. If this grant was turned into an educational grant for passing a school year, we would have had less problems and seen less kids being dumped and killed and neglected. That is our problem. We are not rewarding learners for academic achievements.

      Azande - 2011-12-20 12:29

@ibhubesi, that's a truthful comment. our society has its moral fibre diminishing by days. we are actually the devils of our own good. democracy has never been purely good. i still want to believe that we are still in the learning stage as the country and eventually we will craft our "own best-fit democracy model" that will take a bit from all the generic best practises of democracies you can find in the world. When i come to think of the legislations we passed such which have very detrimental implications to our society: 1. Abortion of 12 year olds: Aids is getting spread amongst teens more due to this 2. Child grant: teenagers, some innocently out of povery get pregnant so that they can have access to these funds. Its sad and we really need to dig deep to find solutions to these problems.

      Kala - 2011-12-20 12:55

Azande I agree with you. Everybody presumes guilt until proven innocent. We very seldom wait for both sides of the story before we condemn someone for their actions.

      P.S. That should read condoms!

      Kala - 2011-12-20 12:54

Or as Azande said previously, the death could have been an accident and not premiditated murder

      Pixie86 - 2011-12-20 17:33

unlike white teens who have abortions with their family's approval.

  • kobus.devilliers1 - 2011-12-20 12:23

Stop violence against women and children ...

      mandlakazi - 2011-12-20 12:46

True that Kobus! We're being raped by Policemen, forced into arranged marriages by our own families, still treated as 2nd citizens in a country we helped builded. It's a sorry state of affairs out there. You might find this girl was impregnated and left alone to fend for herself and her child. Being a mother of 2 I'm very much aware and sensitive to the needs of a child...she probably snapped! And where is the father of the baby? probably never seen or heard from in the 1 years of this toddlers' life. Its actually a very sad story indeed.

  • Kerry - 2011-12-20 12:26

Kids having kids. what do you expect. Not mature enough for the responsibility

  • Roy - 2011-12-20 12:28

      mandlakazi - 2011-12-20 12:48

      Same as the Waterkloof retards!

  • AbigailEuston-Caleb - 2011-12-20 12:39

I have a one year old boy and just the thought of him getting hurt or something, breaks my heart!! How can this woman kill her child! She has no heart! I hope she rots in jail and hopefully get killed in there too!

      Azande - 2011-12-20 13:07

I hope so as well, if it can proven that she deliberately and wilfully killed her baby. Otherwise, I feel sorry for her, loosing a child is ubearable, it should be worse if it is due to your own accident as a parent.

  • Michelle - 2011-12-20 13:30

can we all just comment on the story and STOP playing the race card. no one (black or white) asked her to go have sex without protection.no one said that when she fell pregnant she should not go have an abortion. and no one held her hand when she had an orgasm , thus she did wrong, regardless if she is/was black or white, capiche?

  • hw.dejager - 2011-12-20 16:17

Double You Tea Eff...what is our world coming to?

  • Michael - 2011-12-20 16:17

So, a teenage mother "kills" her 1 year old baby and the citizenry is horrified - rightly so one would hope. Then you read about an unborn child being aborted after 20 weeks. Here the more liberally minded pause for a moment of smugness at being part of that trailblazing movement called democracy - and then move on to the sports section But turning the page, your eye falls on an article describing the miracle of continuing life in a child born after only 21 weeks of gestation. You then have to reconcile with yourself and question just how deep your bigotry goes because clearly you can't celebrate death and life in exactly the same context. Which brings us back to the teenage mother and her "murdered" 1 year old baby. The truth is the human condition is just not mature enough to manage pure democracy and allowing ourselves to be legislated into one of the world's leaders in freedom of choice has effectively removed the issue of consequence. So, let's legislate a bit more then, let's deny any form of responsibility and celebrate "Freedom" more energetically

  • Pixie86 - 2011-12-20 17:38

this has nothing to do with race, or africa or being a teen! Mothers have been killing the kids since the beginning of time. In china and india it's done because a girl child is considered an unnecesary expense. You guys are always looking for a reason to blame race or the government for everything. Come on, bring some constructive debates on board.

  • mario - 2011-12-20 18:31

it's time to start building more abortion clinics.

  • Gwen - 2011-12-23 08:02
