Girl raped after being offered lift home

2011-12-27 16:27

Johannesburg - A 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a teenager in Mmabatho, North West police said on Tuesday.

Warrant officer Sam Tselanyane said the man apparently offered a 14-year-old girl and her friend a lift in his car, after he found then waiting at a bus stop at around 23:35pm on Sunday.

He then drove them to his home in Mmabatho Unit 15. Once they arrived, he got out the car and dragged the 14-year-old girl inside the house and into his bedroom, where he raped her.

The girl's friend was apparently left in the car during the rape but police are not sure what subsequently happened to her.

The rape victim escaped when the man allowed her to collect her cellphone in the car.

She reported the incident to the police and the man was subsequently arrested.

He is expected to appear in the Mmabatho Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

None too bright this guy, taking her home. Hope they cut his nuts off but he will be out on 500 bail before New Year

      Roberta - 2011-12-27 18:25

And letting her get her cellphone from the car! His one brain cell misfired. Just as well.

I hope they imprison her parents as well for letting her dwell the streets so late at night.

It seems there are more men who know how to harm a girl than those who know how to charm a girl.

This rapist ar****le has all the necessary qualifications to be put in charge of the "Moral Regeneration" programme. Just like Jacob Zuma once was by Thabo Mbeki.

  • Bianca - 2011-12-27 17:32

This is the 3rd rape incident I have read about today!!! This is getting out of control!

We must stop this bad habit of bringing politics, race, class or religion into incidences that must be confronted and debated on their own merit. Lets just call it what it is; a shameful criminal act by a barbaric individual with no conscience who deserves to be quarantined for the benefit of our society. When these rapist strike they don't care about your race, class, religion or political affiliation.

      spot on

      Michelle Kirsten - 2011-12-27 20:22

I agree, it seems rape is unfortunately the only equal opportunities crime. As a mother I also agree on the quarantining of such individuals but as a woman disarmament sounds cool too.

      George - 2011-12-27 20:37

Well done there are a few people out there that needs your insights. they simply do not understand.

  • Wendy - 2011-12-27 17:39

Everyone knows how dangerous it is out there, what are 14 year old girls doing at 23.35 at a bus stop on their own .. where are the parents?? Comrade .. this has nothing to do with race, rape happens in every community.

  • Lynn - 2011-12-27 18:43

    Disgusting.

  • Sharon - 2011-12-27 18:57

I know that rape is a serious problem in this country, but it still hits home hard when you look at the headlines on News24 and there are no less than 3 articles regarding rape, all involving underage girls (7, 14 and 16). Its a crying shame

      Riaad - 2011-12-27 19:29

Agreed. In a Muslim country rapists are executed. The horrible scene of a beheading is usually sufficient deterrent to would-be rapists.

Rape, robbery and murder...the order of the day!

    They should castrate rapists.

What is a 14yr old doing out on the street at 23:35??? Where are the parents?

      Mildly_Amused - 2011-12-28 09:12

Isn't it common knowledge not to accept lifts from random people? My mother taught me that way back when I was in pre-school...

  • mluleki.simelane - 2011-12-28 08:36

    Burn the house down

  • Rikus - 2011-12-28 08:51

Bring back the death penalty - but first sort out our justice system.

  • Nokwanda - 2011-12-28 10:13

This is bad on what happened to the rape victim. But the question I have is what the hell is a 14 year lod girl doing out at that time of the night whatever happened to parenting. First of all how does a parent let their 14 year old out at that time of the night and expect not to have anything happen to them

  • julie.khan3 - 2011-12-28 10:45

brave of her to report him. but what was she doing that time of the night at the bus stop? where were her parents?
