Johannesburg - A 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death during an argument with his friend in the Buthulo area in the Eastern Cape, police said on Sunday.

"An 18-year-old stabbed the boy in his left leg on Saturday night. He died of blood loss," said spokesperson Mduduzi Golwana.

The 18-year-old was arrested and would appear in the Lusikisiki Magistrate's Court on a charge of murder on Monday.

In another incident, a 28-year-old man was shot dead by his friend at a tavern in the Ndimbaneni area on Saturday.

Goldwana said the two walked out of the tavern and shortly afterwards a gun shot was heard.

"The man ran away after the incident. Police found a 9mm pistol not far from the scene," he said.

Police were searching for the man.
