Durban - A 17-year-old boy was in a critical condition after falling 30m down a cliff at Dududu on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast on Saturday, paramedics said.
The teen was one of a group exploring a waterfall near a rehabilitation centre when he slipped down the cliff, said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha in a statement.
"A police helicopter was used to try and hoist the critically wounded man out of the ravine; serious winds however hampered the operation," he said.
Paramedics climbed down to the wounded boy and placed him on a protective board. They and the Port Shepstone police rescue team carried him back to the top of the mountain.
Botha said the boy was placed on a ventilator and transported to the Netcare St Augustine's hospital.
