White River - Two teenaged girls, aged 15 and 16, will appear in court on Tuesday on charges of beating up and robbing a man.
The girls from Newskom in KaBokweni near White River, Mpumalanga, were arrested on Saturday night after a 27-year-old man was badly beaten with beer bottles and robbed of his wallet that contained R900 cash.
The girls had followed him when he left a tavern, said KaBokweni police spokesperson Constable Muzi Ngomane on Monday.
"The victim had recognised them so we were able to arrest them soon after the incident," he said.
The girls are charged with robbery and assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm.
Ngomane said it was not uncommon for women in the area to target drunk men when they left taverns.
He said that last month, two older teenagers, aged 18 and 19, were armed with a gun and robbed a 38-year-old man in Mbonisweni near White River of his cellphone and some cash.
They have since run away from home and police are still looking for them.
