Johannesburg - Two girls, aged 13 and 15, drowned at the Thohoyandou prison, Limpopo police said on Sunday.
"The two girls were living with their mother on the premises of Thohoyandou correctional services. The mother (a prison warder) went to work yesterday (on Saturday) at about 14:00 leaving the two young girls in the house," said police spokesperson Mashudu Malelo.
"... the girls went swimming in the dam about 500m from the house and drowned," said Malelo.
The small dam was used to water the gardens, he said.
"The girls were discovered between 15:00 and 16:00. Emergency services certified the girls dead on the scene," he said.
