Johannesburg - Two teenage boys have been arrested for allegedly breaking into a house on a farm near Herbertsdale, Western Cape police said on Sunday.

The two boys, aged 17 and 18, allegedly broke into the house just after midnight on Saturday morning, said Captain Bernadine Steyn.

The owner of house, aged 82, was alone at the time.

"The two suspects [allegedly] forced the front door open and, armed with a scissor and knife, allegedly assaulted the victim."

"She sustained open wounds on her head and hands."

The teens stole a radio and three cellphones before fleeing the scene on foot.

The elderly woman was taken to a hospital in Mossel Bay where she is a stable condition.

The 17-year-old was arrested on the farm on Saturday and was found in possession of the stolen radio, while the 18-year-old was arrested on Saturday evening in Herbertsdale.
