Tender scam uncovered in Limpopo

2011-08-15 08:03

Polokwane - An e-mail scam that tricked people into depositing money into an account, under the pretext that they were awarded a government tender, has been reported to the police, the Limpopo treasury said on Sunday.

The e-mails were sent by an address registered in finance MEC David Masondo's name, department spokesperson Kevin Ramdharie said.

"No such tender was awarded, as is claimed in the fraudulent e-mail. The MEC does not award tenders as the department has relevant committees which deal with [that] line with supply chain management prescripts."

Ramdharie said successful service providers would receive a letter from the department and have their details advertised in the provincial tender bulletin.

Everyone is trying to get onto the tender bandwagon; government, politicians, common fraudsters and even their victims. They all deserve each other.

      McDaNife - 2011-08-15 08:12

      DW me think to.

      Phlegm - 2011-08-15 08:19

These chaps who fell for this scam are just dumb, everyone knows the official way to get a tender in Limpopo is to deposit funds into the Ratanang trust!

      roboman1 - 2011-08-15 09:09

Excellent chirp phlegm. Country has become so corrupt, just about every department malfunctions due to fraud or negligence of some sort. Try the ex cipra and its replacemnet, pathetic. The new way to make money in SA is interlinked to some form of BEE fraud or government linked fraud. Our president's corrupter is not serving his jail term, but then neither is the president, the head of ANCYL seems to have money way above his declared income, and more so way above his visible capacity. (intellectual or energy). It appears to be one way traffic the wrong way I am afraid. Unless the ANC manages to get rid of these "charismatics", they are like the evangelists from the deep south of the US, full of promises, hot air and no delivery. (As long as they or their trusts reap in the harvest they are happy, never mind the citizens and general people out their)

These people are idiots, they know the only way to get Limpopo Tender is through Julius! Come on people, stop falling for Limpopo Scams, without JM's hand in the pie, you won't get the tender - ever.

      embargo - 2011-08-15 10:30

As an aside: Amazing how, whilst manufacturing an essential service product for this country and many others too, not once was I approached with 'so what's in it for me if you get the contract', alterations to tender requirements after the tender had closed and other irregularities which became prevalent post the apartheid demise. In no way am I proposing a return to apartheid, but this kind of behaviour is only adding to the aggravation of the average person's buying capacity. Falling for this scam, sorry for you seeing fraud is legal tender nowadays.

      Malema's secret trust account???

      debrakayestylist - 2011-08-15 19:36

If you are tired of the nonsense in SA like "Moeletsi Mbeki FOR President" on facebook or MMbeki4Prez on twitter

  • DW - 2011-08-15 08:10

Limpopo - the home of the Malema tender scams. Wonder if he is involved.

      WhiteMalema - 2011-08-15 08:46

Yaas...Julius is probably closely involved with Masondo whom is hanging behind his masende where he is "tendering" for brownie points in order to pay his way onto the pap & sesheba train!!!

  • ReThan - 2011-08-15 08:34

  • mfanawise - 2011-08-15 08:46

i just wonder if these idiots even applied for the tenders they thought they got..idiots

  • Ann - 2011-08-15 08:47

    Another self-enrichment ploy - amazing!

  • tootsie - 2011-08-15 08:56

If the entire universe was constipated, Limpopo is the precise location where enema would be administered. The level of corruption in that province, per square kilometer, is incomprehensible!!

  • Charles N - 2011-08-15 08:58

Hmm... I wonder when Julius is going to claim that account on the scam email was his, and that it was just a typo with the account number...

  • Charles N - 2011-08-15 09:00

Another thought.... that fact that people are willing to PAY money into an account for being awarded a tender shows that this process has become the norm... which means?

  • Totman - 2011-08-15 09:03

Hell, people. Start commenting with relevants to the article and not with the 1st thing that is coming up in your brain. I know the headline can misleading, but read the complete report 1st. The people that fall for this scam should be parted from their monies.

  • Francois - 2011-08-15 09:12

Unless Malenema has a hand in it, then he is the client, tender and awarded..

  • Buzzbar - 2011-08-15 09:57

How come it's Limpopo AGAIN? We really should cede that piece of land to Zim for the following reasons: 1. Most of it's citizens are already there 2. The IQ of the "average" South african would increase by 17 points if we remove Limpopo from SA (The overall martic pass rate would also climb exponentially) 3. The place is a corrupt dump

      Netherlands - 2011-08-15 21:43

Yet they have the RICHEST PREMIER IN SA!!!!

  • letsee - 2011-08-15 10:18

The appointments of the ANC government can’t manage the country but are clever enough to devise corrupt schemes. Regime change in South Africa is a must and I’m counting on Julius Malema.

  • Heinster - 2011-08-15 11:41

Sad reality about limpopo is that everyone knows that every municipality employee is running their businesses from governments offices - making use of governments resources for their private companies and then awarding each other tenders...

  • onthefence - 2011-08-15 12:01

It's just a Nigerian 419 scam - they choose soft targets .... like Limpopo, and yes, the idiots that never tendered but still thought they won it deserve to lose a few Rand - for being thick

  • Imola - 2011-08-15 12:17

Let's all forget about Malema for while... Our reaction is definately not working. Let's pretend that he is dead. A ghost among us. Let's turn a deaf ear, a blind eye pretend that he doesn't exist. Soon he'll realise that he is nothing and not noticable.

  • Dan - 2011-08-15 13:32

Get down to the facts, where is Malema involved.

  • ariete - 2011-08-15 13:54

Ooh, I must try this one!

  • ANC support - 2011-08-15 14:19

YES, ........Malema's secret trust account??? Now what now????

  • Peter Smith - 2011-08-15 14:31

hehe yeah. The guys who fell for this scam were a bit naive. It would have been more understandable if the fake email account had used Juju's name and details...

  • Boychild - 2011-08-15 14:48

Damn, how can this be....... people who are guilty of Corruption and Bribery lay charges a the Police and are not arrested?????? MMMMMMMM, makes on think!!!!!

  • the mc - 2011-08-20 13:59

TRUTH: the LOVE of money is the root of ALL forms of EVIL...yes!

  • Bankai - 2011-08-23 14:11
