Cape Town - The sister of Stellenbosch axe attack victim, Teresa van Breda, says speculation that her nephew, Henri, had murdered his family was completely incorrect.

Narita du Toit told the weekly You magazine that 20-year-old Henri was a “lovely child” who would never attack his family.

Du Toit said one could tell when “a child has done something wrong” but with her nephew “there was nothing”.

She told the magazine that rumours that Henri was on drugs, had been in rehab and a psychiatric clinic, were untrue.

On January 26, multimillionaire Martin van Breda, 54, his wife Teresa, 55, and son Rudi, 22, were hacked to death in their home on the luxury De Zalze golf estate in Stellenbosch.

Henri and his 16-year-old sister Marli both survived the attack. Questions arose around Henri, who escaped the attack with just cuts and bruises, while Marli had to undergo surgery for a major head injury.

News24 reported at the time that there had been no break-ins on the estate.

Almost eight months after the attacks there have been no arrests

On Friday, a family spokesperson told the Weekend Argus newspaper they were simply allowing police to do their work.

Police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk would only tell the newspaper that investigations were continuing and that there were “no new developments to report”.
