Terre'Blanche judgment to start

2012-05-22 07:32

Johannesburg - Judgment in the trial of murdered rightwing leader Eugene Terre'Blanche will begin in the High Court sitting in Ventersdorp on Tuesday.

Chris Mahlangu and a teenager are charged with beating Terre'Blanche to death in his farmhouse outside Ventersdorp, in the North West, on 3 April 2010.

Both have pleaded not guilty to murder, housebreaking, and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Mahlangu has claimed he acted in self-defence. The teenager has denied involvement in the crime.

Mahlangu and the youth declined to testify and, in April, the trial was postponed for judgment.

"It is probably going to be a long judgment. So prepare yourselves for a long judgment," Judge John Horn told the State and the defence.

The youth turned 18 shortly after the proceedings were postponed.

On Monday, North West police said it was prepared for large crowds which might gather outside the court.

"Based on previous confrontations between the two groups outside the court, police are expecting even worse situations than the previous ones and are up to the task," Brigadier Thulane Ngubane said.

If you're old enough to consume alcohol or kill you're old enough to be responsible for your actions.

I wish they can be found innocent and have a painting of the two depicting them as heroes against a white master.

      Vusi - 2012-05-22 08:51

Maybe just maybe I am as stupid as Terreblanche

      Frank - 2012-05-22 08:56

Nope, Terreblanche was a noted orator and a well read man. He travelled far and wide and despite his political views, was revered as a human being by his followers. What do you have to bring to the table?

      Gerhard - 2012-05-22 09:21

Terreblanche also was an author and poet.

So, you think that a black person killing a white person is heroic??? Eugene Terrblanche was a pig and deserved jail - however i don't call murdering a person 'heroic', it is a sin!!! Becareful the things you say.

I was never a fan of ET. But that does not mean the man does not deserve justice. If the law finds the two men guilty so be it. Let them rot in jail...

      Nigel - 2012-05-22 09:41

      My sentiment exactly.

  • Nigel - 2012-05-22 09:41

I hope the murderous little swine get life, but I suppose I'm asking too much considering the country I live in and the colour of the accused.

  • Herman - 2012-05-22 09:45

Set them free so the Boere can hunt them down like animals!!!!

  • tricia.sutherland1 - 2012-05-22 10:04

Before so many start wishing the boys the acquittal they deserve, let's first listen to the facts - if it was not self-defense and blatant murder - they should do the time. I thought Eugene Terrblance was a pig of a man but no human person (good or bad) deserves to be slaughtered in his bed. Murder is a sin ... Terrblanche did his time for his crimes and his supporters didn't declare civil war. Same for these boys - if they are found out to be guilty - only the criminally minded people of SA will react negatively. No wonder so many youngsters think they can commit crime in SA - because they get so much support after doing it. It is about time that the people of SA shun the criminals and not support them or make them heroes. If not, then crime will just escalate. I mean, if Lucky Dube was gunned down in a hijacking in broad daylight in front of his kids - then what hope do the rest of us have ???!!!!
