Murder accused faints in court

2013-11-06 13:24

Thandi Maqubela, accused of killing her husband acting judge Patrick Maqubela, fainted in the Western Cape High Court on day three of her judgement.WATCH

Cape Town - Thandi Maqubela is guilty of murdering her husband Patrick Maqubela, Judge John Murphy said in the Western Cape High Court on Thursday.

According to Sapa her co-accused Vela Mabena was acquitted on the basis that the State had not proved his involvement beyond reasonable doubt.

Murphy said Maqubela was “the perpetrator of her husband’s death”.

Murphy concluded his 220-page judgment which he started reading on 4 November.

He said call records showed there was a fair amount of contact between Maqubela and Mabena after the acting judge’s death in his apartment on 5 June 2009.

He said these calls and text messages were suspicious for two people who claimed to hardly know each other and whose contact was said to be for the sole purpose of a book.
