Cape Town - E-cigarette users feel strongly about their habit, and many spoke out strongly in favour of them in response to this week’s content on the topic.

This is what you had to say:

Cigarettes be gone!

There seem to be a lot of success stories...

Annette Smith says vaping is the best thing she has done in her life.

"I smoked 80 smokes a day. Been vaping for 2 years now. Best thing I have done in my life. I smoked 2 smokes a month ago and it was horrible. I did however, dual smoke for a few months."

Whille Juan du Toit is enjoying being "stinky free".

"6 Months and stinky free, love my vape... Keep it real liars!"

And Barend Wasserman can now taste the poison in cigarettes

"Also 5 months down the line. Smoke free. I did smoke a cigarette a few weeks ago and were disgusted by the taste.

Took three puffs and inhaled three times. Killed it afterwards. The worst taste of smoking all over again. You can actually taste the poison in them.

With e-cig: No smelly clothes, no lighter needed, no stinky vehicle and best of all: no awful smelling, over filled ashtrays lying around."

Kim Hockaday used to smoke 3 packs a day.

"I used to smoke 3 packs a day for 30 years - started vaping in November last year and haven't touched a real cigarette since the 16th January this year. "

Joanna Roolvink only sees positives.

"I have been using the Twisp for about four months now... I have not touched another Cigarette since. I am happy to say that my cough is gone, my taste and smell is much sharper, I feel healthy and I'm saving R1000 a month!! Overall... I see only positive results!"

This user is willing to wait and see

Says Henry:

"Judging from the vitriol I'm seeing in this comment thread there are a lot of people who might have egg on their faces if independent peer-reviewed studies show that vaping is bad.

"It's a craze that took off before there was enough research done to conclusively explain the health implications and until we have that you're speculating regardless of what side of the fence you're sitting on.

"Personally, I'm really hoping that it has no health implications because it could be a way out for so many smokers, but on the other hand it could also be a gateway to smoking.

"Then there's also the issue of the convenience of having nicotine-on-demand so easily and the likelihood of vapers actually vaping a lot more than they would smoke because of this.

"Nicotine is bad for you, regardless of how you consume it, but let's just wait for the research to come out before we jump on the hype wagon, mkay?

No quitting...

A News24 User says it didn't help him quit.

"As a method of quitting, it doesn't work. I switched because I wanted to continue "smoking" without the health problems. And while I know it isn't guaranteed 100% safe, it's 100 times better than smoking. Plus you don't smell like smoke. Which is a big plus."

A smoker is annoyed at the inequality!

"I am a smoker and not too chuffed that I have to wait to the end of a meeting before I can have a smoke. I think it is a little rude to e-cig in a meeting."

While another doesn't even want you to smoke your e-cig outside

"I get frustrated when people smoke these in non smoking areas, there are still fumes that i dont want to inhale, please be considerate and go to a smoking area. With all due respect, your habit / addiction is not my problem, I dont pick my nose or fart in your space, please dont vape in mine."

And others suspected ulterior motives

Another News24 User says:

"Sounds way too much like information made up by the tobacco companies."

Marcel de Graaf thinks Big Tobacco feels threatened:

"I went through 2 packets a day, I have been vaping for a year now. Have not had a cigarette since. I feel healthier, don't smell like an ashtray, I can breathe and smell and taste better, no more smokers cough, and its cheaper that cigarettes.

"This article seems more like propaganda from threatened tobacco companies that don't want to embrace technology and a trend which is unstoppable and growing very fast.

In no way does this article in anyway make any reference or shows factual information that is related to the article heading. Seems more like the ignorant uninformed informing the uninformed."

And we're promoting cigarettes...

"Shameless propaganda by the cigarette company's, shame on you, I am a non smoker, but as a Health and safety Auditor I have been following this coverage, simply for the reason of the application and the interpretation of the Tobacco legislation towards the E- Cigarettes, and by following the news coverage you can clearly see that they attempt to discredit E- Cigarettes and promoting cigarettes again." - Hennie Thompson
