Thieves leave Viljoenskroon powerless

2012-10-09 11:14

Bloemfontein - Viljoenskroon and surrounding areas in the Free State were left without power after thieves stole a copper cable, power utility Eskom said on Tuesday.

The power outage was affecting Viljoenskroon, Rammulotsi, and surrounding rural lines.

Eskom spokesperson Stefanie Jansen van Rensburg said the thieves struck on Monday morning. The utility was fixing the affected cable and expected to have power restored by late Tuesday afternoon.

Electricity could be switched on earlier and without notice and Eskom customers were urged to treat all electrical equipment as live and dangerous at all times.

Good bet that many of the 'locals' know who the perpetrators are and do not stop or report them - I therefore hope that they who know suffer as well.

And shocking that scum scrapyard owners will buy the stolen cable and shut up about the source. We are becoming more and more dysfunctional due to greed stretching from the ANC in ruling (no, not governing, they are a so called liberation movement and know nothing of governance) right down to dealers in stolen property. Where is Alan Paton now? I would love to see him rewrite Cry Beloved Country. Ek sĂȘ maar net.

I think it is time for a 10 year jail sentence for seller as well as buyer. No 5 year court cases, if you have it in you possession to jail with you. This is major sabotage and consumers are paying for the same thing over and over. The buyers must have friends that share.
