Johannesburg - Three men were arrested in Pimville, Soweto, for possession of cocaine with an estimated street value of R30 000, Johannesburg metro police said on Tuesday.

A senior metro police sergeant on Monday tried to stop the men, who were driving in an Audi, because they were moving in a bus lane along Klipvalley Road, said Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

The men accelerated and sped off and the sergeant chased them for about 3km.

When the car was cut off the driver got out and started shooting at the police officer, said Minnaar.

The officer called for assistance and the men were arrested. The cocaine was found when the car was searched.

The men will appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
