A baby boy and another woman were in a critical condition, disaster risk centre spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said.

The fire started in Tafelsig late on Sunday evening, destroying a house and a backyard dwelling.

Minnie Simmons, 42, Charlene Simmons, 6, and Amanda Claasen, 19, died in the blaze.

Christina Lotz, 67, and 7-week-old Nathan Claasen were admitted to hospital with deep burn wounds.
