Bloemfontein - Three people, including a 2-year-old girl, were killed and six others seriously injured on Monday when their car overturned near Bloemfontein in the Free State, paramedics said.

The wreckage of a Nissan Tiida sedan was found in an open field near the N1 highway at about 01:00, said ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.

"The occupants were apparently flung out of the vehicle when it overturned."

Vermaak said the three bodies and the injured people were lying along the highway. A 12-year-old girl was among the injured.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.

One of the survivors told the paramedics that they were travelling to Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape for the festive holidays, Vermaak said.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital.

9 People in one vehicle? What happened to our traffic officials? I feel for the injured but a murder case should be opened against the driver.

Ja no that is a mystery...??? How do you fit 9 people into a Tiida? Even if you use the boot, I don't think that is possible! Maybe they hit another car or people along the road. News 24 must be a bit more clear on this story.
