Time running out for R30m lottery winner
Johannesburg - A Pretoria Powerball player who won R30.5m after randomly selecting six winning numbers only has two weeks to claim his or her jackpot.
The unknown punter’s millions will return to national lottery operator, Gidani, after 17:00 on August 17.
The ticket was bought in Pretoria for the August 17 2010 Powerball draw.
The buyer used the quick-pick option, which allows a punter to have five numbers and the Powerball number randomly picked.
Gidani spokeperson Thembi Tulwana said if by 17:00 on the day the jackpot remained unclaimed the winner would forfeit the millions.
“It’ll be used for marketing and other jackpots,” Tulwana said.
She said Gidani still hoped the winner would come forward, but time was running out.
“We’re waiting for him or her to claim the prize,” Tulwana said.
The Powerball, which started in October 2009, has created 29 millionaires while the Lotto and Lotto Plus has made 1 019 millionaires.
Gauteng has the most Powerball millionaires with 10.
All national lottery winners have 365 days to claim their prizes from the night of the draw.
