Pretoria - A spokesperson for the Academic Hospital says a toddler is making progress after being bitten by a suspected Mamba.
The two-year-old child was taken to the trauma ward at Philadelphia hospital near Groblersdal, Mpumalanga in the early hours of Saturday after being bitten on the finger by the snake.
The snake slithered into her bed while she was sleeping in her family home at Kwarrilaagte, near Groblersdal.
A spokesperson said although the child's arm was still very swollen, doctors were satisfied with her progress and did not find an operation necessary at this stage.
The toddler was airlifted to the Prewtoria Academic hospital on Saturday afternoon.
