Toddler drowns in Durban pool

Johannesburg - A toddler drowned in a swimming pool in Amanzimtoti, Durban, on Thursday, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said the 2-year-old boy was pulled out of the pool by a relative who initiated CPR until paramedics arrived.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate the child, but he was declared dead at the scene.

    This is really sad. Condolences to the parents. Being a parent and a grand parent, I am fully aware that accidents do happen.

    Sadly, children of this age just slip silently into the water. When my daughter was young, I pulled at least two little ones out before they could be in danger, but you do have to be very aware.

    This is so tragic. Perhas the relative was dealing with other kids for just a minute - my sympathies to the family.

    So where were his parents, and why was he allowed near the pool at his age, and why was there no fence around the pool. I blame the parents stupidity.
