Toddler dies in 'revenge' shooting

2012-03-07 16:30

Johannesburg - A 3-year-old boy was shot dead in Manenberg, Cape Town on Wednesday, Western Cape police said.

The boy was found on a bed in a house on Rhone Walk with a bullet wound to the head, Warrant Officer November Filander said.

Police earlier searched the neighbouring house after receiving a tip-off that illegal firearms and ammunition were kept there.

They found nothing and left.

"Shortly thereafter they [police] received a call of a shooting incident in the same street," said Filander.

Police were told an 18-year-old neighbour allegedly shot the boy in front of his mother after accusing her of calling the police who searched his house.

The youth was on the run.

      JasonEye - 2012-03-07 17:51

Death is all this thing deserves, I would be more than happy to accommodate!

      JasonEye - 2012-03-08 07:02

      ivan.coetzee2 - 2012-03-08 10:43

@Jason. Not to worry that individual is a troll seeking attention to try and justify their own miserable existence

  • Sharon - 2012-03-07 16:38

How sad. The child did nothing wrong! I wish the police had found the gun first time around, it would have saved the baby's life, and the psycho would have been where he belongs - behind bars.

  • Tshivhombela Fhatuwani - 2012-03-07 16:43

I'd call you a criminal of shame terrorising women, children and elders. Nyaope is too much with you!

  • Scelo - 2012-03-07 16:51

this is sad, i hope rots in jail for killing an innocent child.

  • Omnivore - 2012-03-07 16:53

Now here's a case where it cannot be disputed that some criminals do not deserve to live.

  • Terrence - 2012-03-07 16:57

Totally unnecessary. I maintain that anyone caught with an unlicensed firearm should automatically get a minimum 15 year prison sentence as that is a potential murder weapon.

      gainesrlg - 2012-03-08 10:47

Exactly, I totally agree - why else would they have an unlicensed fire arm?

  • Peter - 2012-03-07 17:02

Duncan, they questioned the credibility of the report: http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/ISS-questions-value-of-violence-report-20120117. This event did happen in Cape Town, however.

He probably was caught before and is out on bail

  • hcrouse - 2012-03-07 20:35

This happens too often. It is a symptom of a culture that sees children as a means to an end. Have a child to prove your fertility. Have a child to trap a man. Have a child to get a grant. Make girls pregnant to prove your manhood. Have many children to support you in your old age. Have many children so that at least some of them will survive. Have children so you can have free labour. It's pretty messed up. It produces messed-up people.

  • Charnelle - 2012-03-07 21:30

This is like a horror movie. I can not imagine why anyone would do this. There is just pure evil in this country. Pure evil. No value for life.

  • godesha - 2012-03-08 06:28

What could the parent of that little boy possibly have done to the 18 year old to warrant their baby being killed? RIP little man and condolences to his parent.

  • Elle-Black - 2012-03-08 07:02

So how sick must you be to look a 3 year old in the eye,and shoot him? I will vote for any party that promises to bring back the death penalty.

  • Elle-Black - 2012-03-08 07:03

I also blame the police, they probably told this guy whew the tip off came from.
