Top Cape Town cop killed in crash
Johannesburg - A police officer was killed and two other people were seriously injured in an accident involving three cars in Strandfontein, Cape Town police said on Saturday.
"One of our best detectives, Lieutenant-Colonel Joe Dryden, 42, died on Friday night," said Captain Frederick Van Wyk.
Dryden's vehicle first collided with a Nissan and then collided head-on with a Toyota Hilux bakkie.
He died at the scene.
The people in the bakkie were taken to hospital with serious injuries while a couple in the Nissan were not harmed.
Western Cape Commissioner Lieutenant-General Arno Lamoer said he was shocked at Dryden's sudden death.
He said Dryden had served the public and the police proudly and was instrumental in the prosecution and conviction of many criminals.
Lamoer conveyed his condolences to Dryden's wife and children.
